“Movement in space, gives stillness to time.”
Her tryst with dance began as a kid when she started training in Bharatanatyam. Her first encounter with Nritarutya was during the Navadurga production. “It was a whole new experience of discovering not only my love for dance, but also myself”, she states emphatically. Ever since, Latha’s vigour and passion for the art form has only grown.
A former corporate employee, she currently works with Nritarutya as a professional dancer and a dance tutor. She is trained extensively in Bharatanatyam and is well-versed in her understanding of music.
Reflecting on the years of hard work she has put in training with the company, one can say Latha’s perseverance for the art form has driven her to better her own game. Her grasp on ‘contemporary’ and ‘contact’ techniques has helped her use her range to the maximum of her capacity. This has made her a versatile performer over the years. She is deeply inspired by Indian classical Bharatanatyam dancer Padma Subramaniam, for her extensive research on “karnas” & “charis”. She also is a big fan of the Tao Dance Theatre and follows them for their brilliantly coordinated work.
She has come a long way from her Navadurga days to being the rehearsal director for the Record-breaking Musical, Mughal-e-Azam by Feroz Abbas Khan produced by National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA). This bike riding Iyengar girl has also been pivotal in creating material for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Film, Mirzya.
As an added skill, Latha’s training in ‘neuro-linguistic program’ (NLP) has given her wings to explore the paths of newer ways of teaching. It isn’t a wonder then, that Latha has been tagged as one of the best trainers of the company.
Latha has never turned a blind-eye to learning new things and has always been known to enervate herself in order to gather a new arrow in her quiver. She loves cooking and brings her yummy dabbas to the studio for everyone to relish!
