Mayuri started dancing from as young as she can remember and started the building blocks of her dance company in her teens. A danseuse, choreographer, entrepreneur, dreamer and visionary, today Mayuri Upadhya is renowned for delivering visual renditions of imagination. Over the last two decades, Mayuri has created some of the most memorable work which demonstrates her superlative capability to conceptualise and choreograph on a wide range of themes in an equally wide array of spaces, like Madhushala, Madhur Milan, Make in India Week Opening Ceremony, Mirzya, and many more. She is also the Principle Choreographer for the magnum opus ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ musical. Winner of numerous awards, including a ‘Manav Ratna for contribution in the field of Arts and Culture’ and ‘International Competition for Choreography Concept’ in South Korea, Mayuri is driven by her passion for bringing innovation in art. She is redefining the way dance is perceived, appreciated and treated.

 

 

As the Artistic Director of Nritarutya, Mayuri has carved a niche for her company in the creative world. Her descriptive, spatially demanding, thought provoking and heart-warming choreography has won her popular and critical acclaim. Her rhythmic artistry and ability to transform a simple thought into an experience makes her one of the most sought-after choreographers from India today. With works like Parched, Kali, Prayog experimental series, her uncanny ability to depict on stage what is known intuitively, is reflected.

Mayuri’s vision of giving a structure to the dance infrastructure has taken Nritarutya from just being a dance company to being a profitable enterprise. An enterprise that not only creates world class experimental work, but the one that nurtures its dancers, its art form and makes dance an accessible art to all segments of the society. With a body of work that resonates with cultural ethos, Mayuri is taking Nritarutya to the
