Three celebrated choreographers, one exceptional artist – that is what “Rising” is all about. Aptly titled, “Rising” showcases one of the most promising dancers of contemporary times – Aakash Odedra.
Aakash hails from Leicester, U.K and has trained in Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Indo- Jazz and Contemporary. Over the years he has given many stage performances with different companies and artistes including Pagrav Dance Company, Nilimadevi Dance Company and Raju Mali. Slowly but steadily, Aakash is becoming an artiste to look up to in the South Asian dance scene of England.
“Single-minded passion is never quite enough. Innovation is a collective performance.” Unknown
Rising is a new evening of work performed by Aakash Odedra, exploring different processes and aesthetics to create a new personal language. Aakash performs solos choreographed by Russell Maliphant, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Akram Khan and himself and featuring lighting by Michael Hulls and Willy Cessa.
All use Aakash’s background in Kathak and Bharatanatyam to create a new flavour of contemporary dance. Aakash also presents a contemporary Kathak solo choreographed by himself.
The project has been commissioned by DanceXchange, Sampad, Eastman, The Hat Factory, Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Dance, South East Dance, New Art Exchange, The Place, Curve Theatre, Leicester and funded by Arts Council England and Akademi.
