Chhau and Taekwondo – Technique comparison
Chhau
The Indian folk form, Chhau portrays a great deal of dramatized movements which usually has a strong story line. The Palta in Chhau is one of the highlights as it requires immense control. It is executed by keeping one’s head as the axis and turning your body as you jump parallel to the floor with the momentum generated from the hip mainly and arms assisting.
Taekwondo
A Korean Martial Art form mainly to do with Striking and Kicking has a very visually appealing kick which also leaves the opponent on the floor. It is executed by winding up the hip and arms then going into a jump by raising one knee and kicking the other leg over the knee to the opponent’s face. The power is generated from the legs and hips, with arms assisting.
